According to the report “Monitoring of Solid Waste in Hong Kong – Waste Statistics for 2016”, presenting the 2016 statistics on disposal of glass containers at landfills was 88693 tonnes. Glass is an inert material that does not decompose naturally. Disposed glass bottles take up substantial landfill space that is shrinking noticeably. Under normal circumstances, the glass will not cause environmental pollution or have adverse effects on human health. Glass is highly suitable for reuse and recycling. It is an internationally recognized recyclable material.
