Based on the sorting record from a “Coastal Cleanup” event held by a green organization recently, cullet is the most marine refuse on the beach, 26.4% (870kg) of the total refuse collected, far more than plastic flake (7.6%) and styrofoam (7.4%) which ranked the 2nd and 3rd. According to the report “Monitoring of Solid Waste in Hong Kong – Waste Statistics for 2015”, the 2015 statistics on disposal of glass containers at landfills was 100,375 tonnes, that is 275 tonnes per day, which is an alarming indicator.
